August Philippine Festivals & Events

Travel-loving Filipinos are excited over the long-holiday weekend scheduled at the end of August: August 29 (National Heroes' Day) and August 30 (end of Ramadan).  The 4-day long weekend isn't the only thing to look forward to this month. There are also a lot of Philippine festivals and celebrations this August.  Here are just a few of them:


Aug. 1-3  CABIBI FESTIVAL (Lal-lo, Cagayan Valley)
Cagayan celebrates its 11th Cabibi Festival and Town Fiesta this month. The municipality formerly known as Nueva Segovia  showcases its culture and history through the following activities: Street-dancing and parade on August 1 (7 a.m.), a Search for Ms. Lal-lo on Aug. 2 (8 p.m. Dupaya Gym) and a Variety Show on Aug. 3 (9-11 a.m. Dupaya Gym).


Aug. 1-8  KADAGATAN FESTIVAL/MERCEDES FISHTIVAL (Mercedes, Camarines Norte)
This is a thanksgiving celebration for the blessings and the bounty of the sea. In honor of St. James the Fisherman, the people of Mercedes hold various activities to acknowledge the beauty of the sea and the wonders of  their marine resources.  A colorful parade, water sports activities like kayaking and game fishing, and lots of merry-making are in store for guests.


Aug. 1-30 KADAYAWAN SA DAVAO (Davao City)
The King of Festivals is here! The month-long celebration starts with an Agro-Industrial Trade & Fair on August 1 followed by a grand opening ceremony at the People's Park on August 15. There will be street dancing featuring dances of different ethno-linguistic groups in Davao as well as a Floral Float parade on the succeeding days 44. Aug. 8  STO. DOMINGO DE GUZMAN FIESTA (Basco, Batanes)
This religious festival features the amazing culture of the people of Batanes as well as lots of merry-making and entertainment for visitors to the "Scotland" of the Philippines.

Aug. 9  MALIPUTO FESTIVAL (San Nicolas, Batangas)
The star of this culinary festival is the Maliputo, a fresh water fish in Batangas. Street dancing as well as different activities featuring Maliputo are done on this special occasion.

Aug. 9-11 KIDAPAWAN FRUIT FESTIVAL (Kidapawan City, North Cotabato)
This festival, also known as Timpupo (harvest) Festival,  features the exotic fruits of the City of Kidapawan such as durian, rambutan, mangosteen, etc.  Visitors will not only get a chance to watch colorful fruit parades, cultural shows, and street dancing, they will also have the opportunity to savor the delicious fruits of Kidapawan for free. (Note: Celebration dates may be moved depending on the outcome of the harvest.)

Aug. 12-16 SANTONES FESTIVAL (Brgy. Calumpang, Liliw, Laguna)
Santol and Lanzones, two popular produce of the locality, take the spotlight in this festival.

Aug. 15   LUBI LUBI FESTIVAL (Calubian, Leyte)
Through cultural presentations and feasts, this celebration highlights coconut trees and its value to the people of Calubian.

Aug. 19  MANUEL L. QUEZON's BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
The birth of former Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon is celebrated every year in Baler, Aurora (his hometown) and in Quezon City, Metro Manila (It's a non-working holiday in Quezon City).

Aug. 19  ANGONO DAY (Angono, Rizal)
Angono, the Art Capital of the Philippines, will celebrate its 73rd Anniversary through a grand parade, exciting cultural shows, and other activities. See this page for more details.

Aug. 19-Aug. 29  GIGAQUIT FIESTA/JINAWA FESTIVAL (Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte)
The festival commemorates the history of Gigaquit through songs and dances. Find the schedule of activities here.


Aug. 21 KAGAY-AN FESTIVAL (Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental)
Visit the City of Golden Friendship and witness exciting events from dance contests to a fireworks competition. The most anticipated event,  of course, is the Golden Float Parade which features big and colorful floats that represent different elements of the city's history and culture. Aug. 25 TSINELAS FESTIVAL (Gapan, Nueva Ecija)
The people of Nueva Ecija don't take their slippers (called "Tsinelas") for granted as they have one celebration that's all about their footwear. See amazing floats, giant slippers, and people dancing on the streets as Gapan also marks the anniversary of its cityhood on that day.

                                                                   
Aug. 25  ILOILO CITY CHARTER DAY
The city of Iloilo will mark its 74th Charter Day with a grand parade, blessing of its City Hall, a job fair and other festivities to promote awareness of the city's history and development. It's also a special non-working holiday for residents of Iloilo City.

Aug. 25-Aug.31. KALIVUNGAN FESTIVAL (North Cotabato Province)
The province of Cotobato will commemorate its 97th Founding Anniversary  through various activities such as a Sports Olympics, Open Chess competition, Rapid Water Tubing Competition, Boat Race, Parade, etc. Check this post for more details.
