Shadow of a giant |
This seemingly ominous shadow was cast by a white, man-made giant: A windmill. It's one of the 20 wind turbines at the Bangui Windmill Farm at Bangui, Ilocos Norte, after the town of Burgos.
The ginormous Bangui Windmills stand majestic on the shores of Bangui Bay, which borders the mighty South China Sea. The wind turbines' classic white colors contrast with the off-white sand and blue waters, making them appear more stunning. One can see these windmills from the Bangui View Deck while on the way to Pagudpud or from the shores of Bangui Bay (the best option, in my opinion!).
Graceful windmills as viewed from a distance |
Once, when I was a child, I wanted to go to Holland or San Francisco to see windmills. I realized now that I didn't have to go that far. My visit to Bangui's wind farm was a treat for the senses. Standing at the shoreline, I saw the endless blue horizon in front, viewed the amazing 70 meter-high wind turbines at my right, felt the wind caressing my face, heard the pleasant humming made by the windmills' rotating blades, and sensed the crashing of large waves on my feet. Oh, the power of nature! The glory of the human mind! HALLELUJAH!
